Moving On

Friday September 13th

After almost 21 years we are moving on from our house up in Teesdale
West House, Winston.

It's been a great place and we have enjoyed it throughout, seen the millennium in (The Binge in the Back of Beyond), and three decade busting birthdays.  Now it's time to move on, the garden is not getting smaller, the shops are not getting nearer, the street is not getting quieter, and we are not getting younger.

After a hectic week of packing boxes, trips to the tip and charity shop, we moved our stuff into store and de camped ourselves to Hove.
Lots of Progress by Monday
Fifty cartons bought.  All filled up by Thursday.
Thanks to BP for taking care of all my records,

and Steve for fostering the Guzzi.

The furniture is gone.

Bye bye utility room and shaving station

Farewell to the very spacious master bedroom

Sayonara study and sounds

Adios to the half acre plot with a stupendous view across the Tees Valley

Dasvidanyia daffs

Arrivederci to the vegetable plots, and so long all you apples

See you later
Little Fudge

All being well

Wainstone Debutantes

Sunday August 9th

Another meet with the NY Moors specialists, featuring a first time out for a bunch of boulderers!  About 21 years ago since a certain local climber made an outdoors debut at the same crag so it must be;

The Wainstones

Old(?) school and new school walking in

The Wainstones

Always full of promise

Starting out

MT on the slab left hand

A worthwhile variation

A new angle on the classic
East Sphinx Traverse

RV follows with some fancy footwork

A long shot from TMs big zoomer

JH experiencing the outdoors in full 3D

More men in black

TM takes care of everything

Jurassic Rock

Thursday 5th September

Good to get something done on the tenth anniversary of the Gunter Tapes.  Apparently the NY Moors were formed during the Jurassic Age.   Not that today's climbers could be mistaken for any kind of return of the dinosaurs at;

Scot Crags Scugdale

MT climbs into the dazzle of a glorious late summer morning

TM reaching out on the righteous route left of Saint's Wall.

Pet's Corner

TM keeps to a sporting line up the right side

The usual economy of style

Gravity Wall takes some great runners

Until it doesn't.....

The traverse left and moves up feel a little precarious.  TM eyes up the good holds higher up.

AT makes old fashioned shapes on the uber-trad Gallileo's Gully

Left Corner Direct - One of Scot Crags' finest Severes

AT looks for the right friend.  The minimal racking proved sadly lacking

Oh well, just have to step up and reach the big jug at the top then

Uncles at VS 4c is a tough proposition even on a top rope.

MT gets stuck in

TM makes it look relatively straightforward thus far

Moving into the crux on very tenuous holds

A long reach to a side pull feels quite out there though.

Hanging onto a poor hand hold.

Teetering on tenuous foot placements

Due to be disappointed by the left hand side pull

Before being beaten by the Bop Route

Works better up the left

Ten Years Gone and the Drivel Flows On

September 5th 2019
First climbing related blog entry was ten years ago to this day.

See here

Some stat facts and stuff
So far 558 blogs in total in 520 weeks
Of these the majority (~70%) are climbing related.

Which makes about 400 climbing entries or about one every nine days

Others cover skiing, summer holidays, days out walking, trips out, events etc.

The pit of drivel remains bottomless!

Thanks to all my climbing buddies for an unforgettable decade of adventure

In no particular order you know who you are!

More pictures Here

There are almost no climbing shots, there are too many and anyhow the best ones are blogged!
