Moors Meet Up

 Friday September 18th

Impromptu meet of long lost tour types.  V&R on holiday for a week near Staithes, took advantage of local lock-down exemptions to meet as a rule of six for a walk and a picnic.

SD carefree.

For the time being.....

The first couple of miles were on terra cognita

Heading happily along, as yet oblivious to the struggles ahead
After a break for lunch the route seemed to become less obvious.

Cue emergency release of 1:25k

Good to know some things never change

RL (Route Locator In Chief) soon put us back on course; lime and sodas, ice cream and tea served up back at the Lord Stones.    Cracking Meet on the Moors!

Stoned Again

 Thursday September 17th

High pressure in charge sunny day guaranteed.  Trekked hopefully up the rather damp track to Raven Scar with CB, only to find the rock somewhat out of condition.  Should have taken notice of TM's heads up from his visit there on Monday, but ever the optimist!  Anyhow followed his lead and kept going up over the other side to the sun soaked rock of the ever impeccable

Wainstones

A good call!  Much more suitable venue at this stage of the year, I think Ravenscar will have to wait until 2021 now.

Good company.

It seems much harder than it used to be.....

Glaciaction

 September 10th 2020

Over the last few months NB has mooted the prospect of a return to Lakeland, and specifically another look at one of our regular later season venues, the impressive blob of rock roughness at the mouth of Combe Ghyll.....  Eventually the time and weather was right and we were up early and off to....

Glaciated Slab

The river was well up and took some crossing with the help of a handy walking pole.  No mishaps and we were up at the crag and climbing by 11.30, along with two other parties already there.  What happened to the booking system??  Anyhow the they were all good company and added to the enjoyment of the day.

NB walks in, a lone figure on belay looks on

The sun came out.

Briefly.

Stayed bright for long enough to get a route in.

BP is back

 4 September

Finally manged to hook up for a session with Mr P following an extended lock down and restricted activities.  A mixed session, a few solo's some shunts and a couple of leads to finish off.

BP showing still has all the moves.

All pretty autumnal

This variation a bit goey

Beetled off to the right

Called it a draw after about 10-15 routes.

Hasty Bank Holiday

Monday August 31st

TM revealed a plan for a day out in the NYM.  Met up with CB at Clay Bank car park, plenty of folks out in a glorious Bank Holiday Monday.   A mucky walk along the very wet forest trail brought us out to the end of Hasty Bank and easy walk up to the fabulous....

Wainstones

CB very generously said I was to follow my preferences - in need of some suitable mileage to find something like a modicum of form.

First route Jackdaw Gully.  Recalling AT's first outside climb (on 2nd) in the wet in July 1998.

Takes the obvious R-L groove.  Some tricky moves at the grade.

MT puts on a good show on Christopher.   Gallery v appreciative.

TM reveals secret location for a bombproof bong at the belay.  Just near left foot.

Removes need for faffing about over the back.
